Blancpain: A tradition of innovation since 1735

Blancpain: A tradition of innovation since 1735

Founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain, the eponymous fine watchmaking Manufacture is the world's oldest watch Brand. As a guardian of the watchmaking tradition, Blancpain is committed to constantly innovate and transmit its expertise from one generation to the next. Gathered in its two production facilities located in Le Sentier and Le Brassus, Blancpain's watchmakers and craftsmen create exceptional timepieces, including the classic Villeret, the legendary Fifty Fathoms diver’s watch, the dainty Women models and the one-of-a-kind Métiers d'Art pieces.

The Fifty Fathoms History

Part One - Blancpain

Narrated by Emmy Award Winner Peter Coyote, the film recounts the most important events in the creation and evolution over seven decades of this iconic watch through first hand interviews with Jean-Jacques Fiechter, its inventor; Robert "Bob" Maloubier, OBE, who oversaw the French Navy’s adoption of the Fifty Fathoms as its dive watch; and Marc A. Hayek, Blancpain’s President & CEO, who revived the Fifty Fathoms.

appears in a new titanium

Upon its release in 1953, Fifty Fathoms, the first modern diver's watch, immediately appealed to professional divers and soon thereafter to their civilian counterparts. It has since become the archetypal watch in this genre. As relevant as ever six decades on, its main original technical and aesthetic characteristics, revisited and complemented by a date in the 2000s, are now teamed with a titanium case.
